This acidity is beneficial, as it prevents “bad” bacteria from replicating. Having a pH that too high (basic), increases susceptibility to conditions such as BV and yeast growth. Studies have also found links between having a high vaginal pH in pregnancy and premature births[1], and higher susceptibility to contracting STIs[2], and frequent UTIs[3].
